Poem 19 A poem for children

Help! (and other songs Dad likes)
A children’s poem

Last week we were heading
For a family wedding
Then came the moment I was dreading
When the Disco gets underway

For after all the celebrating
I know my Dad is waiting
To start his wild gyrating
When the music starts to play

(Oh No!) My Dad is Disco Dancing
(Oh No!) My Dad is Disco Dancing
(Oh No!) My Dad is Disco Dancing
He’s a Disco Dancing Dad!

I try to hide my face or
Pretend I’m some other place
So I can’t see this disgrace
When the embarrassment starts to swell

Cos’s Dad’s moves are bad enough
Watching his moonwalk is really tough
But then it gets double rough
When Mum joins in as well

(Oh No!) My Mum is Disco Dancing
(Oh No!) My Mum is Disco Dancing
(Oh No!) My Mum is Disco Dancing
She’s a Disco Dancing Mum!

The memory never leaves
Of parents thick as thieves
Making patterns as they weave
It hangs around for weeks

I don’t even want to talk
So take the dog out for a walk
But music from a bandstand makes me baulk
And I can hardly speak

‘Cos

(Oh No!) My Dog is Disco Dancing
(Oh No!) My Dog is Disco Dancing
(Oh No!) My Dog is Disco Dancing
It’s a Disco Dancing Dog!

Everyone’s Disco Dancing
Everyone’s Disco Dancing
Everyone’s Disco Dancing
Oh no, no, no!
